The latest figures from the CSO bring good news on regional jobs growth.

Employment grew by 68,600 jobs annually in the first quarter of 2017, with three quarters, or 53,100, of all employment growth taking place outside of Dublin.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from 7.1% to 6.8% in the first three months of the year, with unemployment falling in every region in the country.

One of the key targets of the Action Plan for Rural Development is to support the creation of 135,000 jobs outside of Dublin by 2020. The Government will do this through a range of measures such as growing rural tourism by 12%, supporting indigenous businesses and attracting more foreign direct investment to the regions.
